I love a good highlighter and own many different brands and formulas. I think that highlighting makes such a difference to your overall look and adds a beautifully defined, sculpted look.
Here are a few of my ultimate favourites:
BENEFIT SUGARBOMB:
This is one of Benefits boxed powders and a lovely highlight with a delicate golden hue. The powder consists of 4 different shades-dark pink, light pink, mauve and peach. The idea is to swirl them altogether to create a delicate glow effect. I love this product, Benefit always create quality cosmetics and this is no exception. It can be layered to give a deeper effect which I love about powders as I feel you have more control. 12.0g. £23.50
ELF GOTTA GLOW:
I love this effort from ELF, a beautiful pure gold highlight that looks just gorgeous on the cheekbones and brow bone. A trick I heard somewhere is to also apply a highlight all around your jaw line- apparently this slims the whole chin/jaw area! I'm not sure how effective this is but what's to lose! I also apply this in a thin line down the bridge of my nose to slim it down!
Gotta glow is a blatant dupe of nars albatross for a mere £3.50 (saying that, ELF always have amazing deals going on- often 50% off! Eyeslipsface.co.uk) Even the packaging is similar, lovely sleek black casing that closes with a satisfying click! It also contains a small mirror for on the go and even has a clear window so you can see the shade you are selecting, great for me as I have MANY blushes from ELF :) Obviously you cannot expect the same quality as NARS, it is very loosely pressed and one swipe of your brush creates a big powdery mess but for me, this is a very small negative when you consider everything else. Big thumbs up from me.
4.8g £3.50
ELF LUMINANCE:
This is my ultimate favourite a) highlighter and b) product from elf. This is such a beautiful highlight with the perfect balance of shimmer & colour. It is lovely and natural but can be layered for desired intensity. I am onto my 3rd one of these, each has lasted me approx 6 months of pretty much constant usage!
5g £1.50!!!!!!
EYEKO EXTRA GLOW AND TINTED CREAM:
I know that technically the tinted cream is a liquid bronzer but I wanted to include it in this post as I use it in the same way!
I like these creams very much but it has taken me a lot of playing around with them to find what works best for me. I find them to be quite thick and not particularly easy to blend, therefore when applying to specific areas I found them to look cakey and greasy- not a good look. The way I would advise using these is to mix a tiny bit (and I mean tiny) with your day cream and apply to the whole face. In my opinion this looks beautiful and gives the complexion that "inner glow" we're all after. I also apply to my collar bone & shins during the summer or nights out. I do like these but would not repurchase.
28ml £8
BENEFIT HIGHBEAM:
Probably the most famous liquid highlight, this is a beautiful pearl pink with fine silver shimmers and looks amazing. The formula is lovely and so easy to blend, I love the packaging and nail polish style applicator. I used to own moonbeam too which is the apricot colour but I lost it somewhere :( A little goes a long way with these so although expensive, completely worth it!
13ml £18.50
ELF SHIMMERING FACIAL WHIP:
A well textured creamy formula which blend out so well, you can work as slowly as you want with these so the exact opposite to the eyeko creams.
I have these in Spotlight (White) and Golden peach. Spotlight is very pigmented and so you only need a little bit otherwise the effect will be too White, the silver lights to it are gorgeous and very fine, no horrid chunky glitters. Golden peach is exactly what it says- again, beautifully subtle when only using a small amount. Be careful though as the effect could go from just right to orange in a swipe.
These have the added bonus of smelling amazing, elf describes it as being "sugar orange" delish!
Spotlight is my favourite, I would like to try out all the shades eventually.
9.5g £1.50!!!
ELF SHIMMER PALETTE:
Another "NARSesque" compact containing four different shades. I like the texture of these which are quite oily/wet to the touch but almost turn to a powder when you blend. The lasting power isn't amazing but you can easily do on the go touch ups as it comes with a small brush and a mirror inside. Cute. I do like this and will continue to use every so often but to be honest I prefer the facial whips even though they are from the basic elf range whereas this palette is the "studio" line.
5.6g £3.50
SWATCHES:
Which are your favourites and do you have any highlighting tips or tricks?!
